An Australian tradition, a world wide reputation.

Tyrrell's Wines has been a family owned business for 150 years. The company has vineyards that extend throughout Australia and with the help of T-bone, has an online presence that extends throughout the world.

Tyrrell's initially approached T-bone to redevelop the back end of their website in June 2006. This redevelopment was completed and launched in April 2007. T-bone then developed an e-payment gateway, an internal marketing database, and an online charity section. In August of 2007, Tyrrell's proposed a website redesign to celebrate its 150th anniversary. The new website launched in May 2008.

Content Management System (CMS) Development & Hosting

Costly website changes, a common issue for many companies, combined with a difficult and time consuming CMS led Tyrrell's to seek a solution that would make its site updates more cost effective and easy to manage.

After taking over the hosting of the Tyrrell's website, T-bone was able to develop a content management system for the areas of the site that were the most vital and required regular updates. Ease of use was also an important criterion for this design. With the new CMS, Tyrrell's were able to upload images and product information independently, for the use of retailers, sales staff and media.

Added Functionality

E-payment gateway

After working on the back end development of Tyrrell's site, T-bone recommended a new payment system that would be more secure. This involved creating a system that would direct sensitive credit card information directly to a bank gateway. Additionally, payments are generated in real time without the need for employees to process.

Internal Marketing Database

In July 2007, T-bone released the Tyrrell's Internal Marketing Database (IMD). The IMD allows Tyrrell's staff and suppliers to quickly access the latest Tyrrell's images, trade documentation and promotional information.

In September 2007, T-bone added comprehensive Lab Note functionality to the IMD. This allows Tyrrell's laboratory technicians to post detailed vat testing data in a searchable archive.

Online Charity System

In February 2008, T-bone released a customised charity online ordering system for the Tyrrell's website. The system allows Tyrrell's to create unique charity landing pages via their ilico content management system. Tyrrell's charity partners can easily link to these pages. The charity pages contain product specials and corresponding product ordering functionality.

The 2008 Website

New Information Architecture - The information architecture of the Tyrrell's site posed two challenges. Firstly, it contains complex and detailed product information that needed to be made easy to search/browse and it had to be presented in a visually attractive format. Secondly, the site had to cater equally to different visitor types: Consumers, Trade and Media.

The T-bone solution was to simplify main navigation categories so that it would be immediately apparent which page to go to when seeking specific information.

New Branding - Tyrrell's 150th anniversary was an opportunity for the company to create a new look. Our designers worked with Tyrrell's to bring the new look to an online format. This included a new colour palette, photography and anniversary logo. The end result produced an image of understated elegance and sophistication with a contemporary edge.

Increased interactivity - Product information is broken down systematically, always ensuring that the functionality caters to users who like to search and for those who like to browse.

Tyrrell's Wines

For example, individual wines can be categorized either by range or by varietal, so our designers ensured that wines can be browsed by either criterion with further information on each wine, available from each product page. As another option, users can go use an Advanced Search page to find a specific product.

Results & Feedback

Since launching the new site, visitors have been spending 32% more time on the site and visiting 71% more pages than the same time the previous year.

Tyrrells has been very pleased with their new website.
